30 years ago in Spa:
The triumph of a Jägermeister-Porsche 962
There has been a whole series of major successes in the history of Jägermeister Racing over a period of three decades. Fans remember of one of them in particular. Exactly 30 years ago – on 14 September 1986 – a Type 962 Jägermeister Porsche conquered the world’s elite in the Spa 1000-kilometre race. The Thierry Boutsen/Frank Jelinski pair (Belgium/Germany) won this classic on the Belgian Grand Prix racetrack with only one tenth of a second lead ahead of the works Jaguar XJR-6 of Derek Warwick/Jan Lammers. The works Porsche 962 of Hans-Joachim Stuck/Derek Bell crossed the finishing line in third place.
Through this triumph in Spa, Brun Motorsport secured the team classification of the World Championship for Sports Cars and Prototypes in 1986.
Jägermeister was Walter Brun’s team sponsor from 1984 to 1990. Renowned drivers like Stefan Bellof, Hans- Joachim Stuck, Jochen Mass, Thierry Boutsen, Manuel Reuter, Walter Brun, Gerhard Berger, Oscar Larrauri and Roland Ratzenberger drove Jägermeister Porsches at that time.
